Riverside County Urging Residents to Double Check Vaccine Eligibility as Supply Rises

Riverside County health officials say improvements in vaccine shipments means supply is now outpacing demand. KVCR’s Megan Jamerson reports on the latest from Tuesday's Riverside County board of supervisors meeting.

Dr. Geoffrey Leung, of the Riverside University Health System, told county supervisors this is partly because federal shipments are now going directly to community health centers and retail pharmacies like Walgreens, CVS, Rite Aid and Walmart.

“Previously we had an undersupply of vaccine compared to the demand, and presently we actually have more appointment slots for both community vaccine providers and the mass vaccination sites than we have demand,” said Leung.

The county is encouraging people to check the list of who is eligible to receive the vaccine since they believe at least half of all residents of Riverside County are now eligible under the newly expanded categories.

With 820.986 vaccines administered so far, ten percent of the county’s population is now fully vaccinated.
