A contractor has been awarded an emergency contract to repair a 30-foot section of a bridge on Interstate 10 that collapsed amid heavy rains in Desert Center, east of Palm Springs. City News Service reports that representatives from Granite Construction Incorporated are evaluating what needs to be done to fix the bridge and reopen the vital highway between two of the largest urban centers in the southwestern U.S. More than 27-thousand vehicles a day travel Interstate 10 between Los Angeles and Phoenix, and an estimated 40 percent of all goods shipped in the U-S pass through the I-10 corridor. KVCR's Matt Guilhem reports on the immediate aftermath of the I-10 breach.
