Corona Costco Shooting: Family’s Lawyer Says More Video Likely Exists

On Wednesday, the Riverside District Attorney announced that a grand jury recommended no charges against the off-duty LAPD police officer who shot and killed an intellectually disabled man in a Corona Costco. They also released a video of the encounter – now, the attorney for the man’s family says there may be more unreleased video.

The attorney for the French family, Dale Galipo, held a press conference Thursday where he speculated that there may be another video of the encounter that hasn’t been shown to the public.

He said that video, if it exists, may show a better picture of what happened than the video that was released on Wednesday.

District Attorney Mike Hestrin said at the Wednesday press conference that the video released that day is the only one that exists.

Galipo also repeated the claim that the officer who killed Kenneth French, Salvador Sanchez, received special treatment because he was a police officer.

Galipo: “If it was anyone else other than a police officer who had shot three unarmed people in Costco including shots to the back from a distance, they would’ve been detained, arrested, brought to jail and prosecuted within 48 hours.”

Galipo says he plans to file a federal civil rights lawsuit on the family’s behalf.
