California Unemployment Rate is At A Record Low, But How is The IE Doing?

On Friday, California’s state employment Development Department confirmed that unemployment rate is at a record low of 4.1 percent. KVCR’s Katie Trojano and Rick Dulock report on California's unemployment, and more specifically, the Inland Empire's unemployment rate.

California employers added about 36,000 non farm payroll jobs in October. However, the effects of this month's wildfires have not yet been calculated to reflect any employment impacts.

According to City News Service, Riverside County’s unemployment rate edged up last month despite gains in some sectors. The California Employment Development Department says that based on preliminary estimates, the jobless rate in October was 4.4 % compared to 4.3 percent in September.

According to a new report released Monday from City News Service, roughly 48-thousand residents were out of work in October and slightly more than one-million 51 thousand were employed. Coachella had the highest unemployment rate countywide at 12.9 percent, followed by the unincorporated community of Cabazon at 11.4% and Winchester at 7.7 percent.

Rick Dulock is originally from Gainesville, Florida. He fell in love with NPR as a student board operator for 91.9 KVCR in 1996 and since then has worn many hats including Development Director and Pledge Producer.
