Economics IE is a weekly KVCR radio segment where we talk to economists from the Inland Empire to help take the temperature of the region's economic situation.

Economics IE: August 24

Here's this week's rundown of economics news.

  • The debate over data centers has reached the Mojave Desert. Adelanto residents are voicing concerns over the city’s proposal to amend its land use laws to allow data centers. My KVCR colleague Anthony Victoria reports.
  • Health Net…one of the largest Medi-Cal insurers…is planning to cancel assisted living benefits for members by the end of this year. Families that depend on these benefits to help pay for assisted living facilities say they’re scrambling to figure out next steps.
  • Governor Newsom set a goal to add 2.5 million new units to California’s housing stock by 2030. When local governments plan for this housing, they’re also supposed to meet a range of four affordability targets and most cities and counties are struggling to meet them.
