A popular place to see Japan's Mount Fuji used to be in front of a convenience store

LEILA FADEL, HOST:

Good morning. I'm Leila Fadel. At more than 12,000 feet, it's hard to miss Japan's Mount Fuji from nearby towns. One of the most popular vantage points is in front of a convenience store in Fujikawaguchiko. It's so popular visitors named the spot Mount Fuji Lawson after the store's name. But residents complained tourists would litter, trespass and break traffic laws. The city put up black netting to block the view, so tourists will need to get their Instagram shots somewhere else. It's MORNING EDITION. Transcript provided by NPR, Copyright NPR.
