A copy of Beowulf was returned to a Pennsylvania library after 54 years

MICHEL MARTIN, HOST:

Good morning, I'm Michel Martin. It took 54 years, but a library in Pennsylvania has its copy of "Beowulf" back. The Sewickley Public Library says Chauncey Brewster Tinker's classic was checked out in January 1969. At about 5 cents a day for overdue books, it had a run-up of nearly $1,000 in fines. But under the library's old policy, the borrower would have owed what it cost to buy it in the 1920s, 98 cents. And since they're fine-free now, no charge.
