Much of the desert resort city of Palm Springs is built on land owned by the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians. For decades, the relationship between the tribe and the city and its residents has been cooperative and friendly. Recently, though, a rift has developed between tribal officials and Palm Springs architectural preservationists over the fate of some iconic mid-century modern buildings owned by the tribe.
