Fire Near Aguanga Scorches Almost 100 Acres, 60% Contained

AGUANGA (CNS) - A grass fire that broke out today on the east end of
Aguanga blackened roughly 80 acres in open space before it was partially
contained.
The non-injury fire was reported about 12:45 p.m. in the area of Lake
Riverside Drive and state Route 371, near the Cahuilla Indian Reservation,
according to the Riverside County Fire Department.
An agency spokeswoman said that 21 engine crews and seven hand crews --
numbering over 200 personnel -- were sent to the location and encountered
flames burning through light grass in a field. No homes or other structures
were threatened.
Four Cal Fire air tankers and four water-dropping helicopters were
called in to make runs on the blaze, successfully slowing its spread. By 5:30
p.m., it was 60 percent contained.
The fire was expected to be fully contained by nightfall.
It was not immediately clear how it started.
