City Nature Challenge To Engage Citizen Scientists In The Inland Empire

San Bernardino County Museum

This year marks the 51st anniversary of Earth Day, and the San Bernardino County Museum is marking that milestone with the Inland Empire City Nature Challenge.

The museum is partnering with the Inland Empire Resource Conservation District to create the City Nature Challenge which will “encourage families to become citizen scientists whilst exploring the outdoors.”

Other partners include the Redlands Conservancy, the Mojave Desert Land Trust, and more.

The challenge has a couple instructions. The first is to find wildlife, whether that’s plants or animals or insects. Then, take pictures of what you find with the iNaturalist mobile app.

The last step, according to the San Bernardino County Museum, is to learn more as your observations are identified on the app.

The challenge will run from Earth Day on April 22 through May 9.
