Collision Temporarily Closes Metrolink Line Near Moreno Valley

MORENO VALLEY (CNS) - A two-vehicle collision on Metrolink commuter
train tracks just west of Moreno Valley this afternoon left two people injured
and prompted authorities to shut down the tracks until they could be inspected
for safety.
The crash, which damaged a guardrail and possibly Metrolink's Perris
Valley Line, occurred about 3:10 p.m. at the Van Buren Boulevard/Interstate 215
interchange, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.
According to a battalion chief at the scene, a commuter train was
forced to make an emergency stop because of the collision, but no one aboard
the train was injured.
Both motorists were taken to Riverside University Medical Center for
treatment of unspecified injuries.
Fire officials requested that Metrolink maintenance personnel examine
the tracks before re-opening the line, on which one train runs between downtown
Perris and downtown Riverside every afternoon. There is an intervening stop at
the March Field Air Museum, roughly a block from where the collision happened.
It was unclear when the tracks would re-open.
