Jack Brown, Longtime Leader Of Stater Bros., Dies At Age 78

City of Lake Elsinore

Jack H. Brown, executive chairman of Stater Bros. grocery markets, passed away yesterday (Sunday), according to an announcement released by Stater Bros. officials today.  Brown, who first went to work at Stater Bros. bagging groceries when he was a teenager, is responsible for leading the supermarket chain's growth over the past several decades into one of the Inland Empire's largest employers.  Brown was also known as a generous philanthropist, spreading Stater Bros. -- and his own -- money around the community, benefiting many local area charities and civic improvement efforts.  KVCR news will have more on Jack Brown's life and legacy tomorrow (Tuesday) morning on Morning Edition on 91.9 KVCR, and on kvcrnews.org.

Ken Vincent has retired. We appreciate the way he shared his expertise with many of our young interns and reporters over the nearly eight years he spent as KVCR's lead journalist and Morning Edition host. We wish him a happy and relaxing retirement as he spends more time in his garden and, as he mentioned, more time on the golf course. Thanks Ken!
