Solar Storm
The National Aeronautics and Space Administration says that a geomagnetic storm that originated on the sun may explain why a major communications satellite stopped functioning two weeks ago. NASA captured the most comprehensive images ever of the storm, including a sequence showing a cloud of solar particles lifting off the sun and heading toward Earth. NPR's Richard Harris reports.
The Photo Lies
Commentator John Rosenthal describes a photograph he once took. The image he captured in the picture is deceiving, and people make incorrect assumptions when they look at it. Photographs beg the viewer to look for what is behind the picture. Because things aren't always as they seem -- like the atomic mushroom cloud, which is beautiful until you understand what it means.
