HEMET (CNS) - A brush fire that broke out today on the west end of
Hemet blackened about 20 acres before being contained.
The non-injury blaze was reported just after 4 p.m. in the area of
Esplanade Avenue and Warren Road, according to the Hemet Fire Department.
Engine crews from Hemet and Riverside County converged on the location
and worked for nearly two hours to encircle the fire, using Cal Fire air
tankers based at Hemet-Ryan Airport, less than two miles to the south to make
drops on the flames, which remained largely in open space, away from homes.
The blaze was fully contained about 5:50 p.m., according to reports
from the scene.
Crews were expected to finish mopping up soon after dark.
Warren Road was shut down at Esplanade Avenue for public safety. It
was re-opened shortly after 6 p.m.
There was no word on how the blaze started.
