The Holy Fire is up to 78% containment this morning (Thursday), still being held for several days now at just under 23,000 acres. Authorities say firefighters will welcome the higher humidity and the chance of showers today. But with that chance of showers comes a chance of debris flows into populated communities, and lightning strikes that could start new blazes.
All evacuations associated with the Holy fire over the last 10 days have been lifted. Ortega Highway 74 between Lake Elsinore and San Juan Capistrano is open to traffic, but traffic moves slowly, and there are still some power outages among homes and businesses in the Ortega Highway corridor.
Personnel assigned to the Holy Fire has gradually been reduced from more than 1,500 a few days ago to about 1.200 currently. Incident commanders say barring any problems with the weather today or for the next couple of days, they expect full containment of the Holy Fire by next Tuesday, August 21.
