Skyline Fire Near Corona 5% Contained At 250 Acres; Some Evacuation Orders Still In Effect

KTLA

UPDATED AT 10:30AM FRIDAY, JULY 20, 2018:

Firefighters this morning (Friday) continue to work on containing a brush fire that started yesterday afternoon near Corona.  The so-called Skyline Fire has burned 250 acres and at last report last night was 5% contained.

The fire reportedly broke out near Skyline Drive, in the foothills south of the 91 freeway, west of the 15 freeway, near the Riverside County/Orange County line.  The blaze spread quickly enough to prompt authorities to order evacuations of several homes in the area.  Some evacuation orders were lifted last night, but others remain in place this morning.  A Red Cross evacuation center has been established at Corona High School, although pe.com this morning reports that few people have taken advantage of the shelter.

The Skyline Fire is burning near the same areas southwest of Corona that last year’s big Canyon Fire burned, destroying some homes and closing the burn area to some residents for days.

Ken Vincent has retired. We appreciate the way he shared his expertise with many of our young interns and reporters over the nearly eight years he spent as KVCR's lead journalist and Morning Edition host. We wish him a happy and relaxing retirement as he spends more time in his garden and, as he mentioned, more time on the golf course. Thanks Ken!
