Representative Paul Cook says he’s running for San Bernardino County supervisor.
The Republican from Yucca Valley announced Tuesday that he would seek election to the 1st District seat in 2020.
This comes after current 1st District Supervisor, Robert Lovingood, announced he would not be seeking re-election in August.
Cook is a retired Marine Corps colonel and Vietnam combat veteran. He was elected to Congress in 2012 after representing the High Desert area in the state Assembly.
The 1st District includes the High Desert cities of Victorville, Hesperia, Adelanto, Needles, and Apple Valley.
In a statement, Cook said he would “work to carry out the will of my constituents, while fighting the bureaucracies in Sacramento and Washington DC that seek to overrun rural communities like ours.”
