Man Who Threatened to "Shoot Up" UC Riverside Expected To Be Charged Today

RIVERSIDE (CNS) - Felony and misdemeanor charges are expected to be
filed today against a 24-year-old Riverside man who allegedly threatened to
carry out a shooting at UC Riverside.
Matthew Jeremiah Woolridge was booked Friday into the Robert Presley
Jail in Riverside on suspicion of making terrorist threats, with bail
originally set at $10,000. Authorities subsequently identified additional
alleged offenses, including presenting false identification to a peace officer,
resulting in a bail hike to $30,000.
The suspect was unable to post bond over the weekend and remained in
custody as of Monday afternoon, according to jail records.
Woolridge's constitutionally guaranteed speedy arraignment window will
close Tuesday morning, meaning the Riverside County District Attorney's
Office will either file a complaint then, or the suspect will be released.
UCR police allege that Woolridge, who is not a student at the
university, made the threat via a Snapchat posting on Thursday night that read,
``I'm shooting up UC Riverside tomorrow. 1st Black school shooter going down in
History.''
Investigators used the social media post to identify and locate
Woolridge, who was taken into custody without incident about 2 a.m. at a
residence on Newell Drive, which is less than a mile east of the main campus.
It was unclear what might have prompted the suspect's alleged action.
No classes were postponed or canceled as a result of the threat,
according to UCR.
Woolridge has no documented prior felony or misdemeanor convictions in
Riverside County.
