A man on the run from authorities with his young son for nearly two years has been located in Mexico and returned to Riverside County to face justice.
Yasar Bader Aqel took off with his son, who he does not have custody of, in February 2018. Aqel was on probation at the time for child concealment and resisting arrest.
After the man failed report to family services, a felony warrant was issued for his arrest.
The Pacific Southwest Regional Fugitive Task Force, a team of special agents and investigators, received information that Aqel may have travelled to the Middle East before arriving in Mexico.
Working with Mexican state police, the task force members began surveilling Aqel in Baja California and ultimately arrested him and recovered the boy.
Both were transported to the United States. Aqel was booked at the Southwest Detention Center in Murrieta while the boy was released to the custody of Riverside County Child Protective Services.
