The U.S. Forest Service reports that approximately 360 campers have been safely evacuated from the Camp Oakes in the Lake Williams Area. The Forest Service calls it a precautionary evacuation due to the large number of campers. The San Bernardino Sheriff's Department is handling the evacuations. The American Red Cross Evacuation Center is located at the Big Bear Community Church, 40946 Big Bear Blvd, in the city of Big Bear. CERT is on-scene to meet campers at the evacuation center to address any immediate needs.
Meanwhile, the Forest Service reports that as of 5:00pm Wednesday evening, the Lake Fire has jumped to 20,875 acres burned and has dropped to 27 percent contained.
DC-10's and Air Tankers are making drops in the Rainbow Lane Area. Highway 38 remains closed. The Forest Service says the Forest and Fire Team Leadership re-evaluate the highway closure each evening, and the decision to reopen the highway is dependent on how much firefighting equipment is needed to work in the area. The Forest Service asks that the public remains patient and help keep firefighters safe by respecting the highway closure.
