Jurupa Valley Man Who Allegedly Pointed Laser at Police and Sheriff's Aircraft Arrested

JURUPA VALLEY (CNS) - A Jurupa Valley man was arrested for allegedly
shining a laser at two law enforcement aircraft, a sheriff's sergeant said
today.
A Riverside County Sheriff Department helicopter and a Riverside City
Police Department airplane were targeted by a green laser at about 12:19 a.m.
Saturday while over the Sunnyslope neighborhood, according to Sgt. Jafet Erazo.
Authorities determined that the laser originated from a single-story
home in the 2600 block of Armstrong Road, and used an infrared camera to make
out a suspect description, Erazo said.
Minutes later, deputies on the ground detained a man and woman, but
after some investigating they learned that the man had been the sole laser
pointer, they said.
Alberto Rivas of Jurupa Valley, 25, was arrested and booked into the
Robert Presley Detention Center on suspicion of discharging of a laser at an
aircraft, a felony.
He was released after posting $10,000 bail.
