The small border city of El Cenizo, Texas, made news when it signed on to a lawsuit that seeks to prevent the state’s ban on “sanctuary cities” from being enforced.
The law says local law enforcement must comply with federal immigration requests to detain immigrants, and local officers must be allowed to ask about a person’s immigration status.
Town officials say those requirements are in conflict with the way citizens in the community have lived for decades with immigrants who entered the country illegally. Texas Public Radio's Ryan Poppe (@RyanPoppe1) reports.
