Beijing Issues Second-Ever Red Alert For Pollution

A wave of smog is due to settle over the city of 22.5 million from tomorrow through Tuesday, prompting the city’s second-ever Red Alert for smog, a little more than a week after its first. Cars are being taken off the road, factories are closed and people are being told to stay indoors because of the warning.

Here & Now’s Eric Westervelt speaks with NPR’s Anthony Kuhn in the Chinese capital as it braces for the smog.
