Hillary Clinton Takes on Health Care Again

In 1993, as first lady, Hillary Rodham Clinton led the Clinton administration's failed effort to provide universal health care coverage. Now, as Sen. Clinton (D-NY), she's raising new proposals for reforming the troubled health care system.

Clinton's article "Now Can We Talk About Health Care?" will be the cover story in Sunday's New York Times Magazine. The former first lady discusses the article and her proposals with NPR's Scott Simon.

Among her recommendations is legislation to prohibit insurance companies from discriminating against people whom genetic tests determine are susceptible to certain diseases. She also favors establishing a system of electronic medical records that would give people who move or travel instant access to their medical information.
